What is Chaldean Numerology?
Chaldean numerology is the oldest known numerological system, originating with the ancient Chaldeans of Mesopotamia — a civilization that flourished in what is now southern Iraq between 900 and 600 BCE. The Chaldeans were renowned astronomers and astrologers who believed that every number carries a distinct cosmic vibration, and that the letters of a name, when converted to numbers and reduced, reveal the hidden forces shaping a person's character and destiny.
Unlike other systems, Chaldean numerology assigns values to letters based on their vibrational sound frequency rather than their alphabetical order. The number 9 is considered sacred and is never assigned to any letter — it is the number of the divine, and a person can only arrive at 9 through the reduction of other numbers. This gives the Chaldean system its distinctive depth and is why practitioners consider it the most spiritually accurate of all numerological methods.
Chaldean vs. Pythagorean Numerology
The Pythagorean system — popularised in the West during the 20th century — assigns letters to numbers sequentially: A=1, B=2, C=3, and so on, cycling back from 9. While easy to learn, practitioners who follow traditional teachings argue that this mechanical mapping ignores the vibrational quality of each sound.
